From on air to on stage at Mapletree Business City; Peranakan Sayang performs “Mari Hua Hee” concert
31 May 2023

SINGAPORE – Once again, Mapletree Investments (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) welcomes Peranakan Sayang back for a concert, “Mari Hua Hee” at Mapletree Business City (“MBC”), Town Hall Auditorium on 24 June 2023. Presented by Mapletree, the concert will feature Peranakan songs and folk songs, with an upbeat and modern sound, funny parodies and original arrangements that will get audiences to sing and dance on their feet.

The performers first debut with Mapletree was on Mapletree Arts in the City On Air (“MOA”), the digital platform of Mapletree Arts in the City (“MAITC”) which garnered over 45,000 views. Their success followed on at Mapletree’s lunch time performance event at MBC in September 2022.

Mr Edmund Cheng, Mapletree Chairman, said: “I have seen Peranakan Sayang’s crowd-pulling performance at MAITC’s lunchtime event, which added to the vibrancy of MBC. Their virtual performance during the pandemic was also one of the most well viewed. As such, we are happy to support their upcoming concert, “Mari Hua Hee” to continue our unwavering commitment to local artists. We hope this concert cultivates even more appreciation for Peranakan culture and art.”

As part of the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility commitment to Arts, Mapletree has been engaging local artists and featuring regular performances across genres under “Mapletree Arts in the City” at its flagship MBC development since 2013. Marking its third anniversary this year, MOA was launched by the Group in May 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic to support local artists and pay tribute to the efforts of frontline workers during Singapore’s Circuit Breaker period. Since then, the digital platform has featured 44 performing groups and close to 150 individual artistes and counting.

Peranakan Sayang has been entertaining in Singapore and around the region with its lively, entertaining, and contagiously happy performances. Their unique blend of Peranakan folk songs and modern re-arrangement bring sweet nostalgic memories to senior crowds while attracting younger audiences. Mapletree featured Peranakan Sayang again in September 2022 when the lunchtime performances at MBC returned for the first time since the pandemic. This year, the singing group is returning to MBC with a new concert, “Mari Hua Hee”, or “Come Enjoy” in Baba Malay and Hokkien.

Tickets to “Mari Hua Hee” are available for purchase via this link at S$10 per person. Held on 24 June 2023 at Mapletree Business City, Town Hall Auditorium, Peranakan Sayang will perform at two showtimes – one from 2.00pm to 3.00pm and another from 5.00pm to 6.00pm. A mini bazaar featuring Peranakan related stalls will also be set up outside the Auditorium from 12.30pm to 6.30pm, offering an array of snacks and products celebrating the unique local culture.
